Blog Journal 5

  • A paragraph about your initial experiences using Diigo.  What do you like/not like about using Diigo?
  • A paragraph about your experience with blogging.  What do you like/not like about blogging?  What have you learned, so far, during the blogging process?
  • A paragraph about an interesting Web 2.0 tool that you might use when teaching.  Do not choose a tool we have already covered.  Write a review and include a link to the tool.

My initial experience using Diigo is neutral. I don't mind the website but I can do many of the same tasks in ways i'm already used to. It's a helpful resource but it definitely isn't necessary to be successful.
I've enjoyed blogging a lot. I want to continue to do so outside of the classroom environment in a way that is more tailored to my personal interests and activities. I think especially as i transition into my professional career blogging can be a relaxing way to share my experiences without pushing it onto family members. I believe work and family should be separate at times, and being able to express these ideas and opinions through a specific outlet is a healthy way to do that. Overall I'm glad we've been working on blogger.
Web 2.0 has so many amazing classroom tools to utilize, but my personal favorite is Kidblog. I think having a safe community for the students to interact and share their ideas, etc. is a great way to get their ideas out confidently. Allowing the teacher to maintain control is really important, but allowing students to interact with one another directly is so exciting to me, and being able to learn more about it now is exciting.
